Safety and Health
How to use paints in a safe, healthy and environmental friendly way? Safety and Health provides you information on safety and health issues for paint jobs.

1. Wear eye mask and face mask
When applying paint, wear suitable eye protection. It is harmful if paints get into eyes. In case of any contact with eyes, rinse with plenty of water immediately and summon medical assistance. Wear face mask when sanding paint surfaces to prevent inhalation of powdery substance produced during sanding.

2. Avoid sources of ignition
Paints are flammable. It is necessary to keep paints away from sources of ignition. No smoking is allowed when painting and near to the storage area. Always avoid extremes of temperature and direct sun light. In case of fire, never use water for fire-fighting. Seek for professional help immediately.

3. Ensure good ventilation
Do not smell paints. During painting, make sure that all windows are opened and keep good ventilation. This not only minimizes odour, but also helps the paints to dry faster. Especially when using solvent borne paints (such as enamel paints), good ventilation can help minimizing the bad smell of harmful solvent.

4. Avoid electric shock
In order to paint the wall behind the sockets and switches, it is necessary to loosen the faceplate or mounting box. To avoid the possibility of electric shock, make sure that all the electricity supplies have been cut beforehand.

5. Keep out of reach of children & pets
Paints are hazard to health if swallowed, so always keep paint containers tightly closed and out of reach of children or pets. If swallowed, seek medical help immediately.
